My Query Letter of March 8, 1994 to Prospective Publishers for My Manuscript

The query letter below is one that I wrote in 1994 and was sent to over 50 book publishers between 1994-1998 (this is in addition to my hiring four literary agents to find a publisher for my manuscript).

Although this query letter did not lead to my finding an interested publisher for the 800 page manuscript that I wrote in 1993, a 50% reduced copy of the two page query letter (reprinted below) was very useful to use as an attachment on the fourth and final page of my four page mass mailing letter to the embassies of 175 foreign nations in Washington, D.C. and New York City, dated April 16, 1998.

March 8, 1994

To Whom It May Concern,

I request your services to publish my book. I decided to write my book in the aftermath of the senseless tragedy of the Branch Davidians at Waco, Texas in Spring, 1993. I completed my book in December, 1993. The title of my book is:

Matthew 24:29 Occurs in 1999

The Case Against Armageddon

The Story of The Two Witnesses of Chapter 11
of The Book of Revelation

I explain the allegorical meaning of Christ's words that are recorded in Matthew 24:29 in the initial chapters of my book. I then use the laws of probability to explain that there is a 99.99965% chance that this scripture is fulfilled in 1999. Christ's following words are: "Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky."

I interpret this to mean that the Second Coming of Christ will occur within a few months or a few years after those three celestial events occur.

This prophecy was the easy part.

The main subject of my book is a true story of two people, a 34-year-old man (the author) and a 22-year-old woman (who is faced with almost certain death) are mystically brought together by fate. The woman receives a heart-lung transplant that prolongs her life. The man does everything within his power to support and encourage her. In the process, the man falls deeply in love with the woman but struggles to keep his feelings to himself.

The man divines the Matthew 24:29-30a prophecy but decides not to share it with her until the two individuals commit to each other. Two months after the man places the couple in Revelation 11:3, the woman reveals her prejudice towards all nonmembers of her church.

The man relies on signs from God (coincidences) to ascertain that he is on the right track and then tries to obtain validation of his identity belief from a psychiatrist. The man's experience quickly changes from one of grandiosity to the nightmare of mental illness. (See either of my blogs, 'My Unique and Unusual Life Experience' or 'The Chronology of My Discovery' for the rest of the story.)

The man and the woman reunite after the passage of 2 1/2 years on February 22, 1992. The man explains the process of his discovery and is rejected and disbelieved by the woman's family and church members.

On July 6, 1993, the man learns of the woman's recent death and four days later, in a final act of love and reconciliation, the man declares the woman to be the female witness of Chapter 11 of Revelation--a certain astronomer's friend.

Apparently, I am the only astronomer who is taking the trouble to publicize the Matthew 24:29-30a prophecy. I have completed this task by notifying world leaders through the mails.

My book is the first (and probably only) attempt to notify the public of this prophecy. The latter chapters of my book describe my pragmatic views on religion, tells the reader how to prepare for the years leading up to 1999 and explains why Armageddon is extremely unlikely.

My qualifications as a writer include the following:

1) An above-average intelligence that I have demonstrated throughout my life.

2) I am an extremely well read individual. I subscribe to two daily national newspapers and two weekly news magazines.

3) Between 1984 and 1989, I was the project engineer who administered the construction of floodwater retarding dams. This required me to write contract modifications that described changed conditions in the contract and how the changed work would be included in the contract. This included the estimation of quantities of labor, materials, machine time, wage rates, etc. The timely composition of these contract modifications trained me to organize my thoughts and ideas and led me to become a proficient writer.

The target audience is the millions of people who are interested in the interpretation of prophecy and the Book of Revelation.

The potential audience is every adult living on the planet. I believe that my book has movie or TV potential.

In essence, I believe that my book is 'The Second Greatest Story Ever Told'. Thank you for your time in reading my query letter.

Sincerely,
